The innovative PlumbingVoid™ System is comprised of multiple components that when assembled in a procedural sequence, provides and ensures a void space completely around plumbing pipes under structural slabs. PlumbingVoid™ System is offered in three widths and three heights in order to accommodate a variety of slopes and pipe diameters. Each temporarily suspends and fully isolates pipes from backfill and underlying, swelling soils, which can then expand into the empty space provided, thereby eliminating costly damage from broken, leaking pipes.
PlumbingVoid™ is a system comprised of polypropylene plastic and #3 rebar. The polypropylene material is manufactured as a ribbed plastic panel. This plastic material has perpendicular supports connecting the exterior faces in order to form a supportive sheet. TheTopCap™ is a slit-score polypropylene panel that forms an inverted U-shape. The simple formation of U-shaped rebar in the open flutes of plastic retainers, form ridged side panels that resist lateral soil pressures. Interior supports are positioned to provide additional lateral support. Once the pipes have been sloped, Clevis brackets are positioned with additional top U-shaped rebar pieces in order to space the side retainers and help anchor the clevis hangers in the slab. After the piping is inspected in the open trench, the slit-scored TopCap™ Covers are positioned.
PlumbingVoid™ System, is a waterproof system that has minimal contact with the soil on the bottom of its side retainers and the U-shaped Rebar that space and support these retainers. The perimeter framework of the system, resists later soil pressure as well as supports the weight of backfill. The clevis hangers around the lateral pipes within the open space, are connected to an All-thread with nuts/washers that are vertically positioned and supported by two laterally spaced U-shaped Rebar. These rebar are secured into the open fluting of the side retainers. The elevation of the pipe is determined and held in place by the appropriate washer and nut that is positioned on top of these supports, allowing for height adjustment. Once the elevation and slope of the pipe is completed and inspected, the TopCap™ Cover is installed over the open area and backfilling process can be completed. Compacting the backfilled trenches is not recommended.
The washer/nut at the vertical supports are able to temporarily support the weight of the lateral pipes during the complete construction process. If vertical pressure is applied to the edges of retainers and rebar in contact with the soil, the uplifting soil pressure will bend the washer system and fall thru the spaced supports which then allows the lateral pipes to be totally independent from the PlumbingVoid™ System. The suspended pipes will be hanging from only the embeds. This design eliminates any damage to the suspended pipes from vertical movement of expansive soils.
